About Henry Giroux

Henry Giroux, predominantly a landscape artist who works with oil on canvas, is a master in contrasts. His signature is his palette: vibrant colours, light effects, an atmosphere of silence and peace emerging from his compositions. He finds his inspiration in little villages, like the ones located in the Laurentians or in the Charlevoix

region. As part of his work, he paints gardens with multiple flowers, outdoor hockey games featuring players of all ages and private homes and businesses.

Established in the Laurentians, Henry Giroux owns an art gallery since 2001, that is now located in Morin-Heights.

Henry Giroux’s paintings can be seen in several public and private collections in Canada, USA, Russia and Japan.

In 2007, he wrote a book on his technique, published by Éditions Goélette, which became a best-seller and was reprinted in 2012.

Artistic approach

I want to freeze in time an emotion created by the light, the quietness of the countryside and the majesty of a floral landscape. My paintings are silent; I wish to bring the viewer into a state of peacefulness, close to the one I feel when I paint. I do not want to create confusion or guessing on the part of the viewer. I simply offer my perception of what moves me, hoping that the person will want to be in the painting to discover its different aspects. My artistic approach is essentially based on the exploration of light, composition, as well as my control of the pictorial technique. Painting is, for me, an action that is associated to happiness; my approach does not emerge from an existantial questioning and is not aimed to express a sense of sorrow. My paintings are simply open, luminous and transparent.
